Absolutely beautiful
‘Tracks in Time’ is one of the most beautifully written books I’ve read this year, it’s a sentimental read and it’s impactful but this is what makes it exquisite. The concept of this read was truly terrific and it kept me engrossed in the book. The graphics at the beginning of the chapter are so creative and really add to the experience.
As a whole ‘Tracks in Time’ is a stunning book and it’s definitely a read that’ll stick with you and one you’ll never forget about because I know for certain that this will be a book I’ll never forget. I hope there will a book two because I’d love to know the story behind Alf.
If you’re a fan of character development and books that are emotional with a positive impact, then this is the read for you.
Such an emotional book!
It’s been a LONG time since a book made me emotional, but this one did just that…
This is the sort of book that really gets you to rethink any regrets you might have about things you could have done differently… As Daniel learns, everything happens for a reason, and guides you to the path you’re truly meant to be on.
Tracks in Time reminded me to live in the moment, let things go when they are ready to leave, say yes without fear, and feel hopeful that better days are always around the corner.
Can’t put it down
Downloaded only yesterday & can't stop reading. So far a beautiful story that draws you in and makes you want to read more. Looking forward to finishing it. Amazing first book from this author.
Beautifully written
This author has such a way with words. The story unfolds gently and slowly. A 15 year old boy, holidaying in Ireland with his family, Mum who says little but sees a lot, an annoying younger sister who makes her presence felt and a father whose obsession is recording anything and everything, and commenting on his recordings following their meticulously planned family holiday.
Not a typical boy meets girl scenario, but a slow realisation that he has met someone special, and through a camera given to him by his late grandfather, realises just how special she is right at the end of the holiday. Promises to write and phone are made.
McCarthy describes the scenery, the sea, the girl and hints at their fledgling romance, the tender moments, the explosive moments of misunderstanding, all the while weaving it into the green landscape of Galway.
Be interesting to see how the trilogy progresses, and how the new romance blossoms between this very young couple as they try to remain connected while living so many miles apart. Can't wait for the second part of this trilogy.
Slow burn romance
The Galway Girl’ is a beautifully written slow burn romance, I loved everything about this book. The book has had a positive impact on me, teaching me to enjoy the moment and not to count down the clock and it’s so true.
15 year old Tom agrees to go on holiday for 3 weeks with his family to Galway and there he meets 15 year old Niamh. I really adored both characters, both of them are guarded but they let their walls down for each other in a way which I found precious. I love the way the author has portrayed both of these characters and how both characters care for one another and eventually learned to focus on the moment.
As a whole, I found this read to be wholesome. I enjoyed the concept of the book being based in the 80s and how it’s focused on photography and how photography captures the most important moments, the moments where you want to remember them for life. Everything was described in such depth, now putting Galway on my destination list for the future. I felt relaxed and calm whilst reading this and I would recommend this read if you’re into contemporary fiction. Steve McCarthy in general is a brilliant author, definitely check out his books.
Beautiful
This is the kind of book that creeps up on you, wraps itself around your heart, and refuses to let go. There's just something so beautiful and relaxing about the writing. It was so wonderfully descriptive in a way that didn't feel over the top, but was enough to make Galway feel as if it were in touching distance.
The story itself was a lovely show romance between a couple of teenagers one summer. Throw in a camera and a notebook and you've got a story that I couldn't put down.
Steve is definitely one of my must read authors.
